1/24

Choose an article from one of the sites to the right and explain why you find it interesting. Also, give a few examples of any books or articles you've read recently that you really enjoyed.  You like On The Road, tell me. We might read selections of it in class.

I find that the article "Dow Touches 12,000 for First Time since 2008" interesting because its been a long journey since then. Roughly three years ago, our economy crashed and the whole nation was in a deep recession if not a minor depression. Tens of millions of jobs were lost and the future seems very dimmed. The housing crisis were catching everybody off guard and so was I because I was told that if you invest in home and land, it will never go down. That was wrong. Not only did it go down, people houses were being foreclosed. The article was also interesting to me because I'm majoring in accounting and the stock market is like a thrill ride to me. I watch it everyday since I was in high school and to reach 12,000 points coming from a mere 6000 points when the economy crashed is a very good indicator that our economy is slowly but surely going back up to pre-recession level.

I mainly read technology blogs like gizmodo, engadget, and macrumors. All of their articles are interesting to me. I love technology in general so if its about technology or anything from Apple I will probably read or heard of it already. One particular article in general that I read over and over again was when the iPhone 4 prototype was found in a bar in California. I thought that was the most ignorant but funniest mistake ever made by Apple who is known to be one of the most secretive companies in the world.

What aspect of American society does this clip satirize?

This clip of video shows how Americans in general are becoming more and more reluctant to do more than what is being asked. In the clip Colbert says that with the snuggie, it was "too much" work when in reality it is not. Americans can't even be bothered to put on their pants and have to rely on the Forever Lazy. This clip shows how Americans has increasingly become more and more anti-social with every new innovation. They use the Forever Lazy for an example in the clip but if you think about how lazy and anti-social we are, it may be surprising. For an example drive-thrus are probably America's laziest and anti-social "invention" because you just sit in your car and order through a system not even face to face.
America has been increasingly buying all in one types of product as you see in the clip, the Forever Lazy and perhaps shampoo with conditioner in one. As we rely on these convenience products, we may be losing our values and probably even our health. I say that because convenience is just another form of lazy.

Hello, my name is Andy Nguyen and I'm from Atlanta, Georgia. I'm the first in my family to be born here in America. I'm also the first to go to college in my family and I am majoring in Accounting. Yes I know and heard that accounting can be hard but if you try, you will succeed. As for music and movies, I listen to mainstream music which is what plays on the radio most of the time and my favorite movie of all time is Avatar!

After reading the Chick fil a article, I thought that their support on anti-gay rights were wrong. Chick fil a is a multi-million dollar corporation that rely on millions of consumer to make their money and in those millions are gays. It is not a smart business decision for them to support an anti-gay movement if they want to continue to make the amount of money that they make today. If the gays want to start a boycott, I'm pretty sure they will be able to pull down revenues of chick fil a.

I believe the source (article) is biased since it is from a gay rights website. Sure most of it is valid but since its from a gay rights website, I believe that some parts of it is biased.
