2/23

The clip seems to be satirizing the Republicans again. It seems that purpose of the money for planned parenthood is for other programs other than abortion clinics. Republicans want to cut it because they say it is in business for profit. They're cutting child nutrition and women care. Meanwhile John Stewart is making a joke about the republicans by saying yes they're making profit from Abortion Clinics Concessions not the abortion itself.

When everyone hears Minnesota and mall in the same sentence, they automatically think of Mall of America. Now I've never been there but I doubt there is any kind of abortion centers. It doesn't mean that there isn't a chance of an abortion center there but its unlikely. When they use the word "express" abortion centers, it seems like they've lost their mind. I'm not really sure how the process work but I can guarantee that it takes longer than 30 minutes or even a day to do it. I mean it's impossible to do it in a safe fast way unless its like the video I posted below.

Mike Pence is saying that what planned parenthood said is "technically true" because he doesn't want to acknowledge that its "true". He is saying that the money they receive is technically for abortion because they also have a budget but by using the money they receive for that program, they have extra money to pay their staff and supplies.

I don't really find it offensive. I think the Daily Show is just trying to find humor in controversial things. It's a form of entertainment. Maybe women might find this more offensive than men because they can relate to it more. I just found this funny video about how Oklahoma doctors can now perform a fake abortion. By the way this is an Onion news network video which are fake.

Dear Governor Nathan Deal,

I understand that the state is running out of money but I believe education is very important for the future economy in Georgia. The new Hope Scholarship proposal is ridiculous! I mean you could have cut fundings for other things rather than increasing limits on the GPA qualifications for HOPE. The HOPE scholarship is what made students who couldn't afford to go to college attend college for the first time. Without it, I doubt that Georgia can retain at least seventy percent of the current student population. Imagine how devastating this would have an effect on Georgia's education and the graduation rates will drop off a cliff. The 10% that students require to pay may not seem alot but add on books, mandatory fees, and food is alot. I hope you understand where I'm coming from as a GSU Freshmen. I look forward to graduating here in Georgia but if this bill pass, many students including me would rather move out of state for school.

Sincerely,

Andy Nguyen

What can we do?

Students are now protesting about these changes. As students, we understand the economic standpoint on this controversial issue, but education is first. There are protests and marches on March 7th and 8th at the State Capitol. Send a letter to our senators and demand change!

I thought that the title was a little misleading but then once we finished watching the movie, it made more sense. The title kind of mean how Thierry was able to sell all of his stuff through the "gift shop" exhibit. He basically did art to make money and not really to express himself like Banksy did. His art exhibit was hidden as a gift shop. Theirry made millions off of paintings that were photoshopped and printed and I thought that was cheating. I say cheating because Banksy and the other street artists arts were from their minds and Theirry instead photoshopped pictures. At the end of the movie, I thought that Theirry really was trying to become rich instead of really expressing himself.

I thought that it was a great inspirational film even though Theirry was making millions of photoshopped pictures. It also made me re-think about the graffiti around Atlanta. Everytime I see graffiti, I think about gangs. Maybe its not really gang related after all. It's just how some people are expressing themselves!

Blog 2/14

To be honest, I never liked art or even considered graffiti art. When I see graffiti, I consider them to be  related to gang activities. According to the articles the movie Exit through the Gift Shop is about two artists, Banksy and Guetta, who uses street art to express themselves. Street arts or graffiti as we like to call it, is almost always looked upon as gang related activities. Banksy street art is not at all gang related but it is more on the political side.

I do think this is a valid topic because its a bit controversial. Mr.Brainwash as Thierry was calling himself, shows his face on camera unlike other street artist who lurks in the shadows. Perhaps he was trying to become famous. I don't understand why he isn't arrested since its illegal to paint on buildings etc.

I do enjoy art because it shows the artist's imagination. Art sets them free and they can do whatever they want. It's like they're in another world. Art can also sometimes relieves stress. To me art isn't just painting on a piece of paper, art is everything created basically. From phones to buildings, everything starts on a drawing board. Even though I hate to say it, gang signs on buildings are art as well.

America is deeply in the hole if we look at the jail system. It is crowded more than ever. With continue violence, robberies, and murders during the recession the jails are filled with angry inmates. I believe that Jails in America should adopt this new technique for inmates to use. Meditation will help alot if not at least it will help more than inmates not using it. With their spare time, meditation can be used. It is better than not doing anything. If it isn't very effective, it will still help out our inmates numbers because we have a large percentage of the world jail population. Every percentage counts!

Blog 2/7 "All touch everything"

The Touch Screen craze has officially begun. Ever since the iPhone came out, every tech company rushed to the market to sell touch screen phones. Now there are even touch pads! Touch seems to be taking over the world. Everywhere you look, there are touchscreens. Because everyone is born with fingers, touching seems like the best way to go. It's very convenient and reliable most of the time.

Today, companies like Samsung and various other companies who produces touch screens are having a hard time meeting demand. Apple, one of the biggest purchasers of touch screens recently made a $7.8 Billion dollars contract with Samsung for touch screens. With this kind of demand, you would think prices would go down. The opposite is completely true. As a matter of fact, resources to build these screens are limited. There is just so much of it that we can mine to build them. I was reading an article a couple months ago about how all the resources will be depleted by the year 2020 if the current demands hold. I'm pretty sure it would quadruple by then. In a couple years, everything would probably be touch screen. Doors, tvs, cars, shoes, games, etc.

At the end of the day, engineers will have to start finding a new way to touch. Whether its a hologram or some amazing alien technology.

Apple is taking over the world.

If you're living in the year 2011, you should know what Apple is. No its not the fruit you eat, its the second biggest corporation in terms of value only behind Exxon! Its stock has quadrupled in 4 years time. What made it so big? Well they sell iPods, iPhones, Macs, and their newest sibiling the iPad.

It is unbelievable how much they have grown in such a short period of time. It seems just like yesterday when Steve Jobs, the CEO of APPLE INC, introduced the world to their biggest invention of all the revolutionary iPhone. It took over the world by storm. Nobody thought it would conquer the smartphone market that fast. If you take a look in the classroom, pretty much every one now has an iPhone or a touch screen phone made popular by the iPhone. Notice I did not say Apple created touch screens. Touch screens were made way ahead of iPhones and iPhones just made it popular.

Guilty Pleasure

My guilty music pleasure would be listening to taylor swift. First and foremost, she's country and then she sings about love songs so right off the back its for girls. She's innocent looking but then at the same time she's "fearless." I listen to her every now and then but one of my favorite song from her was love story. I like her style and her simplistic tune and voice. There is nothing wrong with a guy listening to Taylor Swift. I think chicks dig that alot.

My other guilty pleasure song was Baby by Justin Beiber. I can't explain to you how much I hate that kid, but that freaking song was catchy. It's the type of song that will constantly run through your head for days after you listen to it on the radio once. It is also the number one most viewed video on youtube of all time. It has almost half a billion views! I'm pretty sure its not just me that find the song catchy and also want to smack that kid in the face. After all, he's a kid going through puberty.

I think Colbert was using Euphemism rhetoric. By using a statement like "I didn't say she's a Nazi,  I said there is no difference between what the two do," it sounds less offensive then straight up calling that person a Nazi. There's an obvious bias in the clip. He seems to be taking sides with the democrats by focusing how Fox news was calling democrats Nazi's. In the clip, he only talks about how republicans are judging democrats, but in reality both democrats and republicans call each other names. Now is his point valid? I would probably say yes because republicans are sometimes harsh on their opponents. Take the incident in Arizona over the past few weeks for example. People were saying Sarah Palin, during her campaign, had signs that said shoot and kill or whatever and someone actually took her word for it and shot the congress women. I'm not sure if that's true or not but thats what "democrats" are saying. As you can see, both sides take aim at each other.
